Renault-Riffard "Tank" 4 CV was a strange prototype that proved fascinating due to its profile inspired by an aeroplane wing, designed by Marcel Riffard (a collaborator on Renault Nervasport des Records and holder of several world records). Born in 1888, he mainly devoted his career to aeronautics (including the first plane made entirely from metal). Under his leadership, 73 prototypes were produced at Caudron, including Caudron-Renault Rafale C460. His contribution to aeronautics earned him his title of the father of modern aviation.

This incredible prototype managed to combine the aerodynamic performance of an aircraft with the features of a racing car. The car included an offset cockpit, with only the top of the driver's helmet emerging from the enveloping Plexiglass bubble.

The tubular chassis and mechanics came from one of the two Renault-powered Guépard models built in Paris in 1952-53. The sheet metal work was entrusted to Heuliez. When it was re-approved (after modifications aimed at achieving the world speed record in the 750 cc class), this prototype took the name Riffard-Renault in 1956. Except for the 5-speed gearbox, all of the components are from Renault.

The body is made from aluminium and reinforced with a bulkhead. The vehicle's total weight is just 450 kg. The wheel arches are enclosed to prevent turbulence. The front wheels are fitted with rear wheel arches that are reversed to allow for turning. A large fin improves the airflow behind the driver's head, assisting the vehicle's stability at high speeds.
